  Curves in the Rain

Instant Love: Older Alpha and BBW

  Chapter 1

  Sara

I was going to be late to work.

The weather was terrible, I had already broken a heel on one shoe, so now I was limping down the street, and my umbrella had flipped inside out when I wasn’t paying attention. In short: I was a mess.

The morning had started out fine but somewhere along the way it had taken a bad turn. It had probably happened when I decided to eat toast for breakfast instead of something with protein.

Protein, I thought to myself, would have salvaged this day. Given me energy. Something.

Now I was only a couple of blocks from my job, but I already knew that my boss, Kathy, would have something to say about me showing up a little late. She loathed tardiness, and here I was, barely making it into work, albeit thirty minutes late.

The bus was late. It’s not really my fault.

Now all I had to do was make it two more blocks without losing my shoe, getting swept away in the rain, or getting hit by a car, and I would be fine. Although, honestly, the car thing wouldn’t be so bad, as long as I didn’t die. It would be kinda nice to have a break in the hospital for a few days and even get a check from the insurance company. Nobody ever says “no” to apology money, and I wasn’t going to be the first person to start that trend.

The light turned red and I waited for my chance to cross – someone was always zooming through this intersection even after it wasn’t their turn to go anymore. No cars were coming, so I steeled myself and stepped off of the curb.

That’s the last thing I remembered doing. The next thing I knew, I was waking up in a hospital.

  Brett

My BMW wasn’t really made for this type of rain, so I drove slowly, carefully keeping an eye out for anyone who might be silly enough to try to walk in this weather. It was terrible out, and although most people were driving their own car or taking a taxi, there were some people who were stumbling along on the side of the road, umbrellas held close to their body, trying to avoid puddles.

I had just stopped at a red light when a gorgeous girl in a bright green raincoat caught my eye. She was limping, and her umbrella was comically inside out, but that’s not what I noticed first.

  Her curves.

I could see under her tight raincoat that she was a curvy girl, which was just my type. I felt my pulse beat faster and watched as she took a step off the curb. The road must have dropped down, because she fell, trying to catch herself as she went down, her umbrella flying out into the road.

  I didn’t stop to think.

I threw open my car down and rushed out into the pouring rain, my suit be damned. She was collapsed on the street, her gorgeous dark skin covered in drops of rain, her ankle turned. She must have passed out. Bending, I scooped her up into my arms, drawing her close to my chest. I turned and ran back to my car, sliding her into the front seat next to me and hopping back in my door before the light changed to green.

Screw my morning plans. I was taking this beauty to the hospital and I wasn’t going to let her out of my sight.

  Chapter 2

  Sara

“God, what happened to my head?” I asked, trying to rub away the pain. My arm felt strangely tied down, and I sat up quickly, in a panic. The fast motion caused my blood pressure to drop and I fell back onto the sheets, moaning.

In a second there was someone at my side. I opened one eye to peek at him.

Damn. That has got to be the hottest doctor I have ever seen.

Even when feeling like crap I could still appreciate a gorgeous man. He was tall, with incredibly broad shoulders and a beard. Generally I don’t like beards on guys, but this man wore it well. The strange thing was…he wasn’t in a white coat.

“Who are you? Are you my doctor?” I managed, still amazed at his beauty.

He chuckled. “No, dear, I’m not.” Reaching out carefully, he smoothed my hair off my face. my skin felt electric where he had touched me. He rested his hand on my cheek for a second before taking it away.

“Then you must be my guardian angel,” I said, sitting up. Remembering how I had felt when I sat up too quickly, I took it slower this time. He reached out and supported me, helping me scoot into a seated position. Even after he had helped me up, he kept his arm around me for a moment. I liked it.

“I guess you could say that. I’m Brett. I saw you go down off the sidewalk and I picked you up to bring you to the hospital. Couldn’t leave you out there in the pouring rain and I didn’t want to have to wait for an ambulance to come and help. It’s a case of being in the right place at the right time, I guess.”

“I went off the sidewalk…? Did I get hit by a car?” I was confused, but then everything came flashing back. The rain, my stupid shoe, the way I had fallen when the traffic had paused enough for me to walk. “My ankle!” I leaned forward and flipped the sheet off my feet.

There was one perfect ankle, but the other was huge and swollen. A nurse had wrapped it in a wrap and there was deep purple bruising snaking its way up my leg. I stole a glance at Brett and noticed how he was staring at my foot. Thank God I had gotten a pedicure that weekend. I wiggled my toes at him.

“It looks like shit,” I said, honestly. I had looked really cute when I had first gotten dressed, but now I was a mess. I had no idea where my umbrella was, I would definitely have to throw away these shoes, and now it looked like I wouldn’t be able to walk on my own for a while.

“You look amazing,” Brett said softly. He was staring at me, his bright blue eyes boring into me, like he could see me, not just the way I looked.

  I laughed. “Sure, right.”

“You do,” he insisted. “You are beautiful. I’m so glad that I was there to see you go down this morning and that I could be the one to pick you back up.”

  Brett

I didn’t understand how Sara could possibly think that she was anything but gorgeous. Even in the hospital bed, where nobody looked great, she still shone.

“Listen, Sara, what do you say about me helping you get out of here? I can’t imagine that the food in this place is any good. Then I can take you by your house or your job…wherever you want to go.”

I knew where I wanted to take her after here. Get her something to eat to get her energy up and then take her back to my place so I could really make sure that she felt ok.

She smiled. God, she was gorgeous, her deep black skin shining now, her perfect mouth a red bow. If she had been wearing makeup this morning when she headed out it had definitely gotten washed off in the rain. She was naturally beautiful.

I looked at her mouth more closely, then suddenly I imagined kissing it. My cock stirred in my pants.

“Yeah, if the doctor says that I’m good to go then I’d love to leave.” She paused. “I really need to get to work though, I’m not that hungry.” Her stomach rumbled, giving her away, and I laughed.

  “Why don’t you
call your boss and let them know that you won’t be in later,” I said. “I’m going to get you something to eat and then take you home where you can rest. The last thing that you need is to be on your feet today.”

I glanced back down at her feet. The one ankle looked so painful, but the other was gorgeous and thick, just how I liked them. She was perfect for me; she just didn’t know it yet. I did.

Her face brightened a little. “Sounds good, I guess. Maybe I am a bit hungry. Thanks for taking care of me, Brett.”

I bent my head to hers and lightly kissed her forehead. “It’s my pleasure,” I promised. “It’s what I want to do.”

I stood then, quickly turning so that she couldn’t see my erection. Headed for the door, I knew that I was on a mission. I had to find the doctor, get Sara out of here, and make her mine.

  Chapter 3

  Sara

Brett left the room quickly, but not before I could see that his cock was huge. I had never seen a dick that big on a white guy, and I was impressed.

Could he really think that I was that sexy?

Unfortunately, I didn’t have time to get it much thought. Just before I reached for my phone to call my boss, it rang.

“Sara, where are you?” Kathy, my boss, was nothing if not efficient. I rolled my eyes.

  “I’m in the hospital, Kathy, I’m sorry I didn’t call –”

She cut me off. “The hospital? What in the world did you do? Are you at Mercy General? I can be there in fifteen minutes. Let me find my bag.”

“No, no, no, Kathy!” I spoke quickly, wanting to catch her before she decided that she was really going to get in the car and come here. “I’m fine. I’m about to be discharged, actually, but the doctors don’t think that I should come in today. Take a day or two to rest, you know?” That was a lie. But I’m sure the doctors would rather me spend time with hunky Brett than work in a bookstore. Seems like it would be a much faster road to recovery.

“Are you sure, Sara? I really don’t mind coming. You don’t need to be by yourself.”

“I’m not by myself, Kathy,” I admitted. “I have someone here with me who’s been taking care of me. He stopped and brought me to the hospital and now he’s going to get me home safe and sound.” I shut my eyes and thought about his how he would keep me safe, imagining his hands on my body.

“If you’re sure…” Kathy didn’t sound convinced, but I knew that she was caving. She would hate to have to shut down the store for the day and possibly miss any business that may walk in.

“I’m totally sure,” I promised her. “Totally safe and totally sure. I’ll let you know when I can come in later this week.”

“Sounds good, Sara. Just be careful.”

I hung up the phone, smiling. I wasn’t sure that I wanted to be careful, not with Brett. Just then, he walked back in the door, a triumphant look on his face, followed by a shorter doctor who was clutching my chart.

“Sara!” Brett exclaimed, his eyes locking onto mine. “I was just talking to Dr. Nesbitt here about the excellent care that I was going to give you. He wasn’t sure about you leaving with me, but I managed to convince him, isn’t that right, Dr. Nesbitt?”

Dr. Nesbitt scooted around Brett, who was filling the doorframe and came to stand by my bed. He checked both of my eyes with a light and then looked at my ankle. “Yes, as I was saying to Dr. Barrett here…” he began, but I interrupted.

“Dr. Barrett?” Emphasis on the Dr.

“Yes,” continued Dr. Nesbitt, nonplussed. “Dr. Barrett is the director of cardiovascular surgery here at Mercy General. Anyway, I was telling him that you gave yourself a nasty bump on the head when you fell, so it wasn’t just your ankle I was concerned with. He promised me that he would take good care of you, and I have a feeling that he will.” He turned to Brett. “Be careful with her, Dr. Barrett,” he said, “she’s been through a lot.”

“Don’t worry,” replied Brett. He was talking to the doctor but staring at me, his eyes hungry. “I plan on keeping a close eye on sweet Sara here.”

  I shivered, excited.

  Brett

I hadn’t wanted Sara to know that I was a doctor. When people found out what I did they always acted strange around me, but not Sara. She kept up a steady chatter while I lifted her out the bed and set her gently in a wheelchair. I made sure that her leg was up and supported before pushing her slowly out of the door and down the hall to the elevator.

“So, Dr. Barrett,” she said, interrupting my thoughts. “Is that what I should call you now?”

I slowed the wheelchair and leaned over to see if she was joking. She was, and her dark eyes sparkled. Gorgeous. I couldn’t help myself and landed a kiss on her forehead.

“No,” I said, resuming pushing her down the hall, “you are one of the few who can call me Brett.”

She laughed. The sound was intoxicating. I was falling hard for this curvy girl.

I’d never met anyone as young as she was who didn’t seem too impressed that I was a doctor. “Sara, you don’t seem to care what I do. Why is that?”

She turned, grinning up at me. “My dad’s a doctor,” she explained. “Not here of course, but you guys seem to be the same age. I’m 24, by the way. How old are you?”

I bit my lip, feeling even more excited. God, she was perfect in every way, but I had no idea how young she was. I pushed the button for the elevator and waited until we were in and the doors had shut behind us before I answered. I wondered if she had ever been with a man before.

  “I’m 50.”

“You don’t look it. Just a little gray around the temples.”

  Flirty girl.

“Well, sometimes I act it,” I said. “But not all of the time.”

“As long as you don’t think that I’m too young then I guess that we’ll be fine.” She laughed, turning a little in the wheelchair so that she could look up at me. She was stunning, all curves and soft edges, her mouth twisted a little while she laughed. I wanted to claim that mouth for my own.

The elevator stopped and dinged, and the doors slid smoothly open. I wheeled her out, not taking my time. I wanted to get her out of here, wanted to have her all to myself.

“Slow down, Brett,” she said, laughing. “You in a hurry or something?”

I slowed down. “Just thinking that you’re probably really hungry, that’s all. What do you say about going to Flight for lunch?” Flight was the hottest new restaurant in town and had just opened up. I knew that going there meant that we would be able to talk without the place being too noisy and the foot would be amazing. We reached the doors and the hospital staff opened them for me.

Sara thanked them and then turned around to face me. “Flight? Are you kidding? I could never afford to eat there. That place is crazy expensive. Why don’t you just drop me off at home? I have leftovers I can heat up, I’m sure.”

“Not a chance.” I stopped the wheelchair by the valet stand and waited while they brought my car around. “You’ve had a crazy day, I got to meet a beautiful girl, and we’re going out to celebrate. My treat, so no worries.”

Just then the value drove my car up and hopped out, opening the front passenger door so I could lift Sara in. Her face was turned up to mine, her breath hot on my neck. I slid her in the door and helped her buckle, leaning over her body and feeling the heat radiate off of her. She was so damn hot.

After I got in and had shut the door she turned to me.

“Major flaw in your plan, Brett,” she said, smiling.

“Mm, and what’s that?” The rain had let up, but I still wanted to be careful leaving the parking deck. There were sometimes kids running around and I didn’t want to cause an accident.

“I don’t have any shoes! No shoes, no shirt, no service.” She crossed her arms triumphantly and gave me a wink.

“I bet that they’ll make an exception for someone i
n your condition, Sara,” I said, turning confidently onto the main road and headed towards Flight.

  Chapter 4

  Sara

Brett clearly wasn’t going to take no for an answer. I wasn’t used to deal with men like that, but I liked it. I stared out the window while we drove, trying to focus on what had happened. It had been a crazy day, but now I was in a gorgeous car with a sexy doctor going to lunch at the hottest restaurant in town. It felt like a dream, but one that I didn’t want to wake up from.

We pulled up to the door and, once again, Brett decided to valet the car. I’d never used valet service once in my life, but he acted like it was no big deal. He hopped out and came around to get me.

“We forgot the crutches,” I said, when he opened the door. I had no idea how we were ever going to get inside without crutches, but Brett simply smiled and slipped his arms around me, pulling me from the car easily.

“Lucky think that I like being so close to you, isn’t it?” He whispered in my ear as he walked me confidently up to the door. The huge double doors swung open to let us in, and I was hit with a blast of cold hair on my skin. I shivered a little, snuggling closer to his chest.

“Just the two of us please,” Brett said to the host. I could feel his voice rumbling through his chest. “My girlfriend was just in an accident, so please excuse the lack of shoes. I can’t imagine that it will be a problem.”

“Dr. Barrett, of course it won’t. So sorry to hear about your girlfriend. I’ll have the waiter bring her something special. Right this way.”

The host started walking away and Brett followed, still hugging me tightly to his chest.

“You’re famous,” I whispered. He smiled.

We sat in a corner booth and Brett helped me into my chair. From my view I could see all of the other diners, but we were far enough away that I couldn’t hear what anyone else was saying. Brett sat across from me, his bright blue eyes shining.
